The 1908 Cleveland Baseball Club Collection: Authentic Vintage Typography

The 1908 Cleveland Baseball Club Collection: Authentic Vintage Typography

At Rambler Reserve, we are always digging through the archives to find the raw, forgotten pieces of our city’s past. We aren't just looking for old stories; we're hunting for the visual grit—the hand-drawn lettering, the bold ink, and the authentic design elements that defined early Cleveland.

Our latest deep dive took us straight to the diamond. We uncovered a piece of local sports history that was too good to leave in the vault, and it inspired our newest drop: The 1908 Cleveland Baseball Club Collection.

The Artifact: A 1908 Piece of the Past

The inspiration for this collection comes from a genuine, surviving artifact: an official 1908 score card from the Cleveland Press's "Pink Sporting Edition."

Just looking at the cover transports you to a different era of the city. It’s surrounded by vintage baseball motifs—crossed bats, a wire catcher's mask, and a worn-in mitt. But what really caught our eye was the typography. The bold, sweeping, turn-of-the-century lettering used for the "Cleveland Baseball Club" banner is a masterclass in classic design.

If you look closely at the top of the original program, there is even a handwritten note from the fan who kept it: "No hit. 27 to bat game." It’s a literal snapshot of history, ink on paper, preserving a perfect day at the ballpark.

(Side note: True to the interconnected history of our city, this 1908 program even features an ad at the bottom telling fans to "Ask any Citizen of Cleveland about Euclid Beach Park.")

Bringing the 1908 Typography Back to Life

We didn't want to just mimic the era; we wanted to wear it. We extracted that authentic 1908 typography straight from the scorecard, cleaned up the vintage lettering, and built an entire collection around it. This is about honoring the roots of Cleveland baseball with the quality it deserves.

Here is what we've added to the shop:

Honoring the History

We are in the business of celebrating Cleveland's history and preserving its vintage design. Because we are focused on the archival past, please note that these products are purely historical and have no affiliation with any current Major League Baseball team. We’re just a local brand keeping the city's oldest, boldest designs alive.
